"Le chant des Bretons"
THE SONG OF THE BRITONS

Text by Julien Auguste Plage Brizeux (1803/6-1858)
Music by Hector Berlioz, , op. 13 no. 5 (1850), from "Fleurs des Landes"

YES WE ARE THE MEN OF AMORICA

La race courageuse et pourtant pacifique,
THE RACE COURAGEOUS YET PEACEFUL

THE RACE BEARING LONG HAIR
THAT NOTHING COULD TAME (SUBDUE) US WHEN WE (SHE-OUR RACE) SAY: I WANT

Nous avons un coeur franc pour détester les traîtres;
WE HAVE A FRANK (HONEST) HEART TO HATE (DETEST) TRAITORS

WE LOVE JESUS, THE GOD OF OUR ANCESTORS

THE SONG OF THE PAST (BYGONE TIMES), WE ALWAYS SING

NO NO NO WE ARE NOT THE LAST OF THE BRITONS

THE BLOOD OF YOUR SON STILL FLOWS IN OUR VIENS

O terre de granit, recouverte de chênes!
O LAND OF GRANITE COVERED WITH OAKS

Pays des vieux Bretons, à toi seul notre amour!
LAND OF THE OLD BRITONS OUR LOVE TO YOU ALONE

THE WOODS ARE IN THE MIDDLE THE SEAS ARE AROUND
